Discovery Flexibles

Location: Dundee
services:

In flexible packaging, trust is built on consistency, reliability, and the ability to deliver at scale and Discovery Flexibles has earned that trust for generations. But their website hadn’t kept pace with the business, and in a more competitive market, first impressions were starting to matter more than ever.

Discovery Flexibles partnered with Due North Creatives to create a new brand and website that reflects their next chapter  combining 160 years of manufacturing heritage with a modern, credible digital presence built for today’s buyers. In an industry where trust, quality and reliability are everything, their website needed to do more than “look nicer”  it needed to build confidence from the very first click.

Project duration:

A brand and website built for Discovery’s next chapter

Discovery Flexibles is a Dundee-based manufacturer producing flexible packaging for customers across the UK and Ireland. Their work sits at the heart of fast-moving supply chains delivering high-volume packaging to exact specifications, where quality can’t slip and reliability matters.

They’re also one of the last truly independent businesses of their kind in the UK, built on long-standing expertise and a team that takes real pride in keeping manufacturing in Scotland supporting stable employment and families across the area.

But while the business had evolved, their website hadn’t.

And with more customers using websites to research and shortlist suppliers, that gap was starting to matter.

A first impression that didn’t match the business

Discovery Flexibles had outgrown their previous website. It was limited, visually dated, and didn’t reflect the scale, pace, or precision of the work they deliver every day.

For a business operating in a competitive market with tight margins and high expectations, first impressions matter, especially when buyers are comparing suppliers online before they ever pick up the phone.

Reputation was carrying them but new business was becoming harder to win.

Discovery Flexibles had built trust over decades through reputation and referrals. That worked for a long time.

But the marketing journey has changed. Today, people visit a website to understand what a business does, how they operate, and whether they feel credible enough to start a conversation.

The old site wasn’t giving potential customers enough information to make that decision with confidence, and that raised a bigger question:

How many opportunities were being lost without anyone even knowing?

Their biggest strength wasn’t visible: Their People

Internally, Discovery Flexibles knows their biggest advantage isn’t a flashy building , it’s the people.

The business has created long-term stability for skilled employees, with many team members working there for decades. That knowledge, loyalty and pride is central to how they operate, but the previous website didn’t reflect that human side at all.

Showcasing capability without case studies

Like many manufacturers, Discovery Flexibles works with customers whose packaging is commercially sensitive. That means detailed client case studies, product breakdowns and brand logos aren’t always possible to share publicly.

So instead of relying on “named examples”, their new website needed to prove credibility in another way. by clearly demonstrating knowledge, capability and technical expertise.

The Approach

Creating a brand that matched the quality of the business

Before we could redesign the website, we needed to address the first impression problem at its root. Discovery Flexibles’ existing identity felt dated and didn’t reflect the scale, capability, or performance standards they’re trusted for today.

We created a refreshed brand identity designed to feel modern, high-performing, and confident, while staying practical and consistent across every touchpoint. This included a clear logo system, colour variations, and usage guidelines to help the brand stay professional and recognisable wherever it appears.

A colour palette designed for clarity and impact

In a sector closely connected to food and hygiene standards, colour plays a key role in perception. We developed a bold, clean palette that reinforces professionalism while giving Discovery Flexibles a stronger presence across digital, print, and future marketing.

Starting with strategy, not aesthetics

We began with a kick-off workshop to get clear on Discovery Flexibles’ priorities, their customer types, and what makes them different in a crowded market.

From the outset, it was clear the goal wasn’t growth at all costs, it was steady, sustainable profitability, protecting long-term jobs, and creating resilience for the future.

That understanding shaped the tone of the brand: confident, grounded, human, and highly capable.

Building a website around how buyers choose suppliers now

Flexible packaging customers don’t just want a supplier, they want confidence. They’re looking for reassurance that a manufacturer can deliver the right quality, at the right volumes, with the consistency and reliability their supply chain depends on.

We structured the website around how modern buyers research and shortlist suppliers, making it easier for visitors to understand Discovery’s capabilities, processes, and approach before making contact.

Proving capability through knowledge-led content

Like many manufacturers, Discovery Flexibles works with customers whose packaging is commercially sensitive. This means detailed customer examples and case studies can’t always be shared publicly.

Instead, we focused on showing Discovery’s expertise through clear, helpful content, creating capability and process pages that demonstrate technical knowledge and support buyer decision-making. This allowed Discovery Flexibles to build trust through depth, clarity and transparency, without relying on named client examples.

Bringing people into the story

The previous website didn’t reflect what Discovery Flexibles values most: its people.

With many long-serving team members and a strong sense of pride in keeping manufacturing in Scotland, we made sure the new website communicated the human side of the business, strengthening trust and reinforcing the partnership-led experience customers can expect.

Creating space for innovation and industry progress

Discovery Flexibles is passionate about improving the future of packaging, from enhancing recyclability to exploring new materials and more sustainable structures.

A collage of eight news headlines about sustainable packaging, featuring images of packaging materials, people in safety vests on a factory tour, packaged produce, and workers operating machinery in a manufacturing setting.

To support that long-term vision, we built a dedicated blog section where they can share ongoing innovation projects, emerging prototypes, technical expertise, and community-led stories. It gives the team a platform to keep educating customers, showcasing progress, and evolving their marketing over time, without needing a full website rebuild every time the business moves forward.

Training, Support & Aftercare

A new website is only valuable if it stays useful.

To make sure Discovery Flexibles felt confident and in control long after launch, we delivered a live training session with their team and created supporting how-to videos hosted on a private YouTube channel for easy reference. With people and priorities constantly changing in any business, this gives Discovery Flexibles the ability to keep their website up to date, maintain performance, and continue building momentum, without relying on external support for every update.

The Result

Discovery Flexibles now has a brand and website that reflects the reality of the business:

  • A modern first impression that matches the quality they deliver
  • Deeper content that supports customer research and buyer confidence
  • Clear communication of capability, even without named case studies
  • A stronger people-led story that reflects their values and culture
  • A platform built for sustainable growth in a more competitive market

Most importantly, the new website acts as a trust-building tool, helping customers see the true Discovery Flexibles from the first click, and supporting stronger conversations long before the first enquiry lands.

Early results (first month live)

With the site live for just one month, early engagement has been encouraging:

  • 2,407 total page views
  • 516 active users
  • 4.66 views per active user
  • 1m 41s average engagement time per active user

We’ll be revisiting these results and updating this case study as performance and enquiries build over the coming months.

Historically, we have simply designed our own logo and made our own website. We decided to take the plunge and bring in the professionals to modernise our logo and build a website that really shows who we are.

We interviewed several potentials, local and national. Due North really stood out for us straight from the very first meeting - they got what we were trying to achieve! Amanda and her team were great to work with and always very enthusiastic about what we were jointly creating. We've already had several packaging enquiries directly from the site!
